e-Residency Banking Reality
Important clarification: e-Residency does NOT grant rights to open a personal bank account. The digital ID alone is not a sufficient basis for banking - banks require additional proof of genuine connection to Estonia.
What e-residents CAN do:
- Open business accounts for Estonian OÜ companies (with additional documentation)
- Use fintech alternatives like Wise, Revolut Business
- Access PayPal, Stripe through Estonian company
What e-residents CANNOT easily do:
- Open personal accounts without physical ties to Estonia
- Use digital ID alone for banking verification
Digital Banking Alternatives
For expats without Estonian bank accounts:

| Satchel | Business/personal | Specifically serves non-EU residents |
