Poland is one of the most affordable countries in the European Union, making it an attractive destination for expats, digital nomads, and students. Your budget stretches significantly further here than in Western Europe.

Key Cost Factors

Housing is your biggest expense. The rental market is competitive in major cities, especially August-October (university enrollment season). Furnished apartments cost 10-15% more than unfurnished. Expat-popular areas in Warsaw (Mokotów, Śródmieście) and Kraków (Stare Miasto) run PLN 4,000-6,500/month for 1-2BR.

Groceries are very affordable. Discount supermarkets (Biedronka, Lidl, Aldi) offer excellent value. Local markets (bazary) are even cheaper for produce. Weekly groceries for one: PLN 150-250.

Dining is remarkably cheap by European standards. Lunch menu (zestaw obiadowy) at a local restaurant: PLN 25-40. Coffee: PLN 12-20. Beer at a bar: PLN 12-18.

Transportation is excellent and inexpensive. Monthly public transit pass: PLN 100-150. Single ride: PLN 4-6.

Currency Note

Poland uses the Zloty (PLN), not the Euro. As of early 2026, 1 EUR ≈ 4.30 PLN. This means Western European salaries or remote income in EUR/USD go very far in Poland.
