Citizenship by Naturalization Visa

Indian citizenship by naturalization requires 12 years of lawful residence—at least 12 months immediately before application plus an aggregate of 11 years in the preceding 14 years. Applicants must be of good character, demonstrate adequate knowledge of at least one of India's 22 scheduled languages, intend to reside in India permanently, and renounce their previous nationality (India does not allow dual citizenship). The application is submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Processing is lengthy and discretionary. The Permanent Residency Scheme (PRS) for investors (INR 10-25 crore investment creating 20+ Indian jobs) provides a path to citizenship within 12 years. The fee is INR 1,500. The Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025 is modernizing the legal framework.
