Taiwan

Asia's hidden gem for digital nomads and professionals

Taiwan is increasingly recognized as one of Asia's best destinations for expats and digital nomads. The island nation combines high-tech innovation, world-class infrastructure, excellent healthcare, and affordable cost of living with traditional Chinese culture and stunning natural beauty. The Employment Gold Card program has made Taiwan uniquely attractive to skilled professionals, offering an open work permit without employer sponsorship plus significant tax benefits. The new 2-year Digital Nomad Visa (expanded January 2026) provides legal status for remote workers. Both programs reflect Taiwan's strategic effort to attract global talent. Safety is exceptional - Taiwan consistently ranks among the world's safest countries. The healthcare system (NHI) provides universal coverage at minimal cost. Internet speeds are among the fastest globally. The only challenges are moderate English proficiency outside major cities and the requirement to renounce original citizenship for naturalization.
